Our Practice
John J. Riggs, O.D., F.A.A.O. Born in Kansas, Dr. Riggs spent most of his childhood in the Los Angeles area. He graduated from Whittier College in 1977 with a degree in Chemistry. In 1981 he received his O.D. degree and was in the top fourth of his class. His private practice started in 1983. For several years he was Optometry Director at a community clinic in San Diego. In 1990 he became a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. In 1996 he served as an Expert Examiner for the State Board of Optometry. He received the San Diego County Optometric Society Optometrist of the Year award in 2005. In 2008 he was the President of the San Diego County Optometric Society. Dr. Riggs and his wife attend Seacoast Community Church in Encinitas. Mercedes Mercedes started as our front office manager in June 2006 after completing the Medical Receptionist/Billing Clerk course at Comprehensive Training Systems . Excited by the optical field, she then completed a year course at Palomar College's ROP Optical Technician program and is now employed as our Optometric Assistant. She is in charge of the optical department and performs pretesting, visual fields, and fundus photos. In addition to pursuing her ABO certificate, she enjoys spending free time with her daughter Natalia. Anna Anna started as the front office manager/ biller in February 2008 and came to us with extensive receptionist experience. Away from the office, you can find her fishing with her husband.
