Results from a recently published 20-year-study following 4,500 children showed an eye exam at age 6 can predict future myopia by age 13. The study showed that children who are hyperopic (farsighted) at age 6 tend to have normal vision in their teenage years but those who have little to no hyperopia at age 6 tend to become myopic in their teens. The results were applicable for all ethnicities and near work or lots of reading did affect the outcome.
