On September 4, 2025, Dr. Riggs was awarded a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in glaucoma from the American Board of Optometry (ABO), the first recipient in California.
To earn a CAQ, a Diplomate must be in good standing with the ABO, and earn a certain number of points by seeing a certain number of glaucoma or glaucoma suspect patients over a three year period, take a certain number of glaucoma classes, be a Diplomate in glaucoma with the American Academy of Optometry, present glaucoma lectures, or publish glaucoma articles and pass a comprehensive written glaucoma examination.
Dr. Riggs will be enrolled in a new maintenance of certification with an emphasis in glaucoma starting in 2026 with the ABO. Diplomates take a written test every four months to maintain diplomate status.
